Police in Maryland are asking a man involved in a dispute at a Popeyes restaurant to turn himself in after a man was fatally stabbed outside the store.
OXON HILL, Md. —
A Maryland man has died after reportedly being stabbed during an altercation surrounding a Popeyes chicken sandwich.
Police with the Prince George’s Police Department said the incident happened at a Popeyes location just outside Washington, D.C., in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
“Our homicide detectives are hard at work on this one, but we have been able to determine preliminarily that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant,” police spokesperson Jennifer Donelan told WJLA.
The station reports an argument between two men started inside the restaurant before moving into the street where the victim was stabbed. The unidentified man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The suspect remains at large.
The popular sandwich recently returned to the menu at Popeyes after the chain was forced to stop selling the item just two weeks after it launched due to “extraordinary demand,” driven by a viral social media spat.
