A high school science teacher who’s accused of having an affair with a student allegedly performed oral sex on him inside a classroom at least twice, authorities in Texas said this week.
Randi Chaverria, who in 2018 was named “Secondary Teacher of the Year,” now faces a felony charge of having an improper relationship with a student, online jail records show.
The 36-year-old woman taught family science at a high school in Round Rock, a city near Austin, before she resigned last week, according to local ABC affiliate KVUE.
An arrest affidavit obtained by the station claims Chaverria had sexual contact with the student several times during the fall 2019 semester. The victim told police the teacher performed oral sex on him in his classroom around Oct. 16, according to the document.
The teen’s exact age was not immediately known, but the woman was not charged with child abuse.
Chaverria quit her job shortly after the school district’s human resources department called her on Nov. 19 to speak about an ongoing police investigation, according to KVUE.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday, but she was released after posting $25,000 bond.
